I think the flexible face guard is a very good idea. As it is removable and the HMD does not press against your face but floats, one could even remove the face guard and use the headset like that. Turning off the lights in the room would solve the rest (except a lot of blue light from the LEDs that is, but who minds blue light?)
I think that it may turn out that for big head sizes, the PSVR could actually offer the largest usable FOV. The only question left is whether fixed lenses will not blur/restrict the margins of the image too much.
