If you knew anything about the backwardiness of the culture who would realize it more then just men forcing thier wife to wear a veil.

I have a secular female friend who moved to the West from Egypt, but who still has sisters and cousins in Egypt who didn't wear headgear in the past but have recently started doing so because of social pressure (particularly when the Muslim Brotherhood was in charge). She has shared a lot of her observations with me. I don't profess to be an expert, but I object to your assertion that I know nothing about the cultural underpinnings.
