? I really don't understand your argument.

Japanese games absolutely don't need to sell well in Japan to stay alive if they find success in the west. People outside of Japan also love traditional Japanese games.

If FFXV is considered as part of the traditional Japanese game industry and is popular and profitable in the west then a decline in Japan does not mean the doom of the traditional Japanese game industry.

You are completely missing the point, in order for the traditional gaming market to remain relevant in Japan than traditional gaming hardware/software needs to sell well in Japan. That is what the OP and myself are trying to say.

Yes but what I'm saying is that traditional gaming software/hardware do not need to be relevant in Japan to exist. And a franchise like Final Fantasy that is increasingly meant to appeal to a western audience does not need to be relevant in Japan to be justified. Of course lost sales are lost and there are means that could be taken to remedy to that especially in Japan (at the expense of the west) but Japan isn't Square's focus anymore for the Final Fantasy franchise and that's what this thread is about. And because of that probable success in the west there's no need to change the formula.
