Or they could just sell their stuff in the west, like they've been doing successfully. The Japanese marketplace isn't the be-all end-all of anything. The only reason that marketplace matters is because of ego and pride. If they can't sell FF in Japan anymore, they will just sell it in the west and make their money here.

Who is selling what in the West? Street Fighter V?

Japanese franchises are in huge trouble without a Japanese base to sell to and yes that includes Final Fantasy.

The "West" is fixated on hyper violent Western shooters and crime games and realistic sports sims there's only maybe 2-3 non-Nintendo Japanese IP that really do well in the long run in the West now.

If Japanese developers think their salvation lies in the West, they are sadly digging their own grave. It will only be a matter of time until greedy suits within their own company's board of directors start saying "why can't we just make these games for smartphones? That's where all the users are", and then these devs will understand the horrible mistake they've made.

IMO there are already going to be repurcussions from these FFXV sales ... I'll bet dollars to donughts that FFXVI is now going to have a lower budget as a result of this. S-E may have suckered stores to order a lot of copies, but that isn't going to happen next time, sell through always tells the truth.

Final Fantasy, that is  the reason why they shipped 5 millions of units day 1.
