I actually absolutely think 3D World could be viewed as a classic in time.  It has fantastic level design and a feel and look distinct from past 3D entries.  And I've played and thoroughly enjoyed Galaxy, played 64, and dabbled in Sunshine but 3D World has the best design in terms of platforming challenges and structure.  And unlike 3D Land, it has an identity to it.

I think if 3D World was going to be seen as classic it would be already. Galaxy certainly was 3 years after its release. 3DW is largely forgotten, because as well made as it is, it is ultimately rather forgettable.

Or it could be that Galaxy was tied to a console with 100mil install base with agressive marketing and 3DW is tied to the lowest selling Nintendo console with the hands down worst marketing and PR of any Nintendo device (and 3D World launched in the 2013 Holiday season, the nadir of Nintendo's marketing) barring the Virtual Boy.  Also, I don't find it forgettable in the slightest.  The biggest problem 3D World has is actually that people wanted Galaxy 3 and got something entirely different.  I actually found the first impression of Galaxy far weaker than 3D World.  Since i had seen images and videos of the aesthetics, that "WOW" moment wasn't there and stripped of that the first several levels of Galaxy are remarkably humdrum.
