1.) They are spending more and more of their money on military pretty consistently since 1988 or so. I don't see that slowing. The interesting (or scary) thing about China as a potential advasary is they could mobilize very quickly because of their monstrous industrial base and population size, in a scenario where they felt threatened they could rapidly increase the deadliness of their military very, very quickly. I've read for example they would be able to double or triple their nuclear aresenal almost overnight if they really wanted to.

2.) There are lots of poor Latin American countries that China could sink its teeth into, they have a ton of money, Mexico would be a logical one to target though especially if they are going to be given the cold shoulder by the US. A few military bases doesn't mean giving up sovereignty in China's eyes it would just be the US getting a taste of their own medicine since the US has military bases everywhere in the world. This would be simply taking a page out of the USSR's playbook (alligning with Cuba to put pressure back on the US for having NATO bases everywhere).

3.) Why? To be a dick. The same way Russia has, enraged that the US/EU may have pushed a coup in Ukraine have opted to give headaches by destabilizing Syria and creating a scenario in which Assad cannot be removed and flooding EU with migrants. Russia loves all that. China would play the same game, only it would be worse. It also really wouldn't cost that much. Arming a bunch of crazies doesn't cost much (unfortunately).

1) China's military spending is pretty much below the world average if we take a look at the expenses to GDP ratio plus they can't exactly project much power outside of it's borders either. China's military is at least a decade behind the US in practically every area too. US also spends more on military relative to their GDP so it doesn't make any sense for China to spend more on a losing game. The only game that China is even winning in is the economic game so it doesn't make much sense for them to raise military spending given that there's absolutely no more incentives for them ...

War is a very expensive game if we take a look at Iraq and China just straight up doesn't want to do it ...

2) Not many Mexican's willing to sell their territories yet but they could definitely work out a deal with a country that's as desperate as Venezuela ...

3) Now you're making out China's leaders to be like Trump, LOL. It's makes no logical sense for China's leaders to be compulsive dicks when it's not a necessity to do so in their favour most of the time. The only thing China wants is your money and land, nothing more ...
