In order to say that this is a bad decision, you have to compare the number of people who would choose an xb1 over a ps4 solely because of a UHD blue ray drive with the number of people who care more about a sub $400 price. Clearly Sony tried their best to make it as inexpensive as possible and thus an affordable option.

There will always be a reason for consumers to choose another console (i.e. Scorpio). That doesn't mean that Sony should make a super expensive version (e.g. with more ram) that only a few people will buy.

Theres no way to get those exact numbers, we just giving opinions here.

Sony already has a cheaper alternative in the slim. I dont think adding the UHD blue ray drive would add much at all to the Pro cost, so i dont know where super expensive comes from.

Not exactly. Marketing people exist for a reason. They found out what we already knew, i.e. that the number of people willing to buy UHD blu ray players and 4k Blu rays is tiny. So it would be a bad business decision to include something most people will never use and force them to pay for it.

Read my sentence again. I was very clear. I never said that the UHD blu ray alone would make it super expensive, but an effort to make it better at everything than the competitor (hence the bolded). The argument was that you should never give the consumer a reason to buy another product. No, you absolutely should. If only a few consumers actually care about that and more care about the sub 400 USD price, then you should go with the lower price. The marketing team probably saw that 400 was as high as they could go. 399 probably sounds better than 420 to the average cosumer.
