Latest game sold 5 million copies. And Gran Turismo is a franchise they keep pumping out new games for, proving my point. The PSP version sold even less. |
Other IPs from Sony were selling great and got discontinued while others where selling subpar and continued...
Killzone started on PS2 and continued to PS4 not selling over 10M and even with drops.
Crash, Jake&Dexter and Uncharted where ND games that were cut after every gen change even if they were increasing.
Sony usually cycles the IPs (with the exception of Gran Turismo, not only because it sold more than 10M each time, but also because PD is a subsidiary not an internal studio and Yamauchi besides having more control than other studios is totally in love for GT. While the other studios on their freedom preffered to try new IPs).

You're putting words in my mouth I never said. I said Sony would also keep making sequels to franchises that can sell 10 million units with each new installments. Nintendo happens to have quite a few of them (especially now that their handheld and home console divisions will merge): Pokémon, Animal Crossing, 2D Mario, Mario Kart, 3D Mario, Super Smash Bros., etc. |
And the keep making Zelda which isn't a 10M seller, all the Mario Spin-offs (some since SNES) doesn't sell over 10M. Most games on WiiU doesn't sell over 10M.

Because people like playing them. Different markets? Is that why Nintendo is fusing their handheld and home console divisions? Alrighty then. The thing is, they're not such different markets as Sony fans like us to believe. The 3DS plays games, damn good games. That makes them part of the gaming market whether you like it or not. All the games I liked on the 3DS would work just as well on a home console: A Link Between Worlds, Ocarina of Time 3D (a remake of a home console game), Majora's Mask 3D (another remake of a home console game), Fire Emblem Fates (this franchise has been on home consoles as well), Pokémon Sun and Moon (main-line games would work great on home consoles as well, and with the Switch we'll finally get just that), Super Mario 3D Land (3D World was based on this), etc. Yeah, I'm not seeing the different market thing here. |
Good so since we have agreed on this. We can say Nintendo handheld is totally destroyed by Cellphone market and crappy bird and other games there sold a lot more than most Nintendo IPs.
And just for your Notice, Pokemon is owned by the Pokemon Company and made by Game Freaks neither are fully owned by Nintendo. But doesn't let that get on your way.

duduspace11 "Well, since we are estimating costs, Pokemon Red/Blue did cost Nintendo about $50m to make back in 1996"
