I have to say, I've never done a complete 180 on my opinion of my game like I have with this game. I'm not a big Final Fantasy fan so I had no expectations there, and I wasn't someone waiting with bated breath since it was announced as VS. XIII
But my god that second half just left a bitter taste in my mouth. What were they thinking?
I mean, the first half was a light hearted brotrip but then it just took a nosedive into some really sadistic territory very quickly. Not a single moment of levity in that second half and it's needlessly cruel to the characters culminating into the final middle finger to fans where everything's awful, the villain wins, and everyone dies. I get that not everything should end happily but a game shouldn't leave me wondering why I even bothered in the first place. Why did I collect all those gems, save all those chocobos, and soup up my car (R.I.P. my gaudy pink Regalia) if everything goes to shit anyway? There's absoultely zero motivation for me to return and try to finish more sidequests because the ending is so futile. Noctis got a raw deal, man. All that talk about being king one day when in reality his purpose was never to rule but to be a sacrificial lamb.
