I mean why dont MS or Nintendo have a yearly event at a set date for fans and announcements. Those Directs are just streams and happen randomly.
It feels like an eternity since we last heard from Microsoft, "there was Scalebound to look out for and what else" is what I'm asking myself. They announce stuff at E3 and then disappear for another year. Meanwhile there's so many stuff to look out for on PS4 that I can't keep up and have to consult a list of announced games.
Sony keeps a big conference every 6 months(TGS excluded), the format is excellent imo, they're keeping the momentum.
My advice for MS is to organize a fan event and announce 1 classic every year, be it og Xbox remasters, Conker sequel, Japanese support etc

Yeah the conferences are getting ridiculously good, and expectations are always very high for a Sony show anyway.
