My usb flash drives have been suspect since the last firmware update. It was 100% success for 9 years. Now, it seems like I have to log out to get them to work. Sorry I can't help. Just saying PS3 has been weird for me too. It's not a connection issue either. I have 2 slims on the go, and every usb port is the same.
