Yeah I've always wondered why, seems completely illogical so just looked it up.
"Before it launched the console was code named PlayStation X. The gaming media called it PSX, and even though the X was dropped the name stuck, especially online, where people would rather say PSX than spell out "PlayStation."
Didn't know that, so we have PSX for PS1, PSX for the weird PS2 DVR console and PSX for PlayStation Experience. NICE
