I'm sure there are exceptions.

My worry is getting refunds for defective products: refund policies on digital copies are not always consumer-friendly.

Steam refund policies seem quite good as far as digital goes. As long as you play under 2h of gametime and within a certain number of days of purchase, they will refund 100% no questions asked.

Good on Steam!

On the other hand, how can a digital game be defective? Other than the game sucking ass, but hey, no gamestore will refund you because the game sucks.

A digital game can be defective like when it has a hard time not crashing. The game sucking major ass is another.

And if a store won't refund you, you could always sell used and get at least a portion of your money back.
