| DarkNight_DS said: @Imperial: Read my post above yours... We've seen this happen throughout the history of the games market. At one time single screen games were all the rage. Then we got side scrolling games which killed all the single screen games and the fans of those games cried out. After that we got 3d games which were and still are very clunky compared to 2d games. 3d games killed off the big 2d games. The list continues on of things that WERE big and STOPPED being big. The market is ever changing. |
Sorta like how Microsoft and Sony sold so many developers on this annoying cinematic gaming trend. =P
I guess some people are worried the Wii's success will kill it. Funny how the DS never comes up in these discussions. The DS is home to tons of shovelware and those oh so terrifying "casual" games that both sell well. And yet there are still plenty of developers who still make "core" games, some even on the PSP despite's it's reputation of poor software sales. The DS even has Contra 4.
Or look at the PC gaming scene. Companies like PopCap exclusively makes short simple colorful cursor games ("casual" to some =P) and there's still plenty of other developers making more traditional games.
If anything these casual friendly games might actually be financing these bloated budget HD games. Look at the sales for Ubisoft's Petz series.
@sqrl - My guess is fear is part of the transition in going in between denial and anger. Fear in what you've been denying might be true, then anger when you realize it is.
Oh, and Malstrom "somewhat" dramatic? Exceedingly dramatic, which makes for some fun reads. =)
