Nope that isn't how a free society works. The president isn't entitled to be popular and what you say on the campaign trail has consequences. He willingly chose to run a campaign based on explosive rhetoric and constroversial statements, he does not now get a "clean slate" or free pass. People have the right to resist said policies and protest if they want. If a politican on the left ran on equally divisive/extremist statements (like for example saying "we're going to confiscate guns on day 1") I would expect massive resistance and protest from people on the right. If he wants the respect of his electorate he can go earn it. Not citizen is obligated to "give a politican a chance" when politican is pledging policy that is offensive to said citizen. |
I didn't say drink the cool aid and never question what he does. I simply state that he at least deserves the benefit of the doubt. We're stuck with him for 4 years whether you like it or not(or move out of state). We can't have an open mind and say "alright, I'll give you the 100 days". Not even 100 days, 50 days, 30 days, 10 days, even a day. Look, he's not even started yet, but this sounds a lot like doom and gloom before the game has even started. Yes, he's hired contraversial people in his cabinet, but day 1 has not even started. We don't know what kind of jobs they'll do, but I can't say it's going to be good or bad. Question him, challenge all he does, look at Trump with a magnifying glass and point out his faults, but before all of that, give him a chance. Because basically, you have to. He's President Elect.
