37 – Battletoads
When the “Reyes Magos” brought me Battletoads I felt a bit disappointed: I had asked for Super Mario Bros 2 (see my #48), but it was sold out (this might be in 1993 or 1994) so I had instead a game I haven’t ever heard before, featuring a hyper-musculated toad fighting a rat… It didn’t seem very promising, but it ended up being a great game. Actually, it’s cooperative (sometimes competitive) multiplayer displaced SMB3 as my most played game with my friends. Certainly, most of the times we only played 3 levels (dying at the infamous vehicle section, which I think we only passed twice), but those levels were varied enough for us: you could ride a dragon, fight a giant robot and practice spelunking while fighting giant crows, for example. Everything that as kids we could expect from a videogame.
