As for the 50% fall...
I think that reality is somewhere in the middle...
GT must have truly declined in interest but that sharp drop must not be just because of that!
The paradigms of game sequels ( always first party not third party ...) that were released after their console being replaced and saw that massive drop are so many to consider that phenomenon just a dwindling of interest.
