They helped in Smash too? Did not know that...

Still, they can and should get big enough to at least develop 2 games per generation.
Them helping out Nintendo shouldn't stop them from doing that.

It's like Retro: talented but not efficient enough.

Retro is plenty efficient.

Metroid Prime-Nov 2002

Metroid Prime 2-Nov 2004

Metroid Prime 3-Aug 2007

Metroid Prime Trilogy-Aug 2009

DKC Returns-Nov 2010

Mario Kart 7 (assisted)-Dec 2011

DKC Returns 3D (assisted)-May 2013

DKC Tropical Freeze-Feb 2014

They have consistently released a game roughly every 3 years which is a pretty standard amount of time for high quality console games while being able to assist/work on smaller things in between.

They released 2 GC games (could have been more if not for those trouble times while developing Metroid); 2 Wii games (and a port) and 1 Wii U game (that was pretty much ready in 2013). Yes, they also helped other titles, but what you showed is that, when entering HD development, they started needing more time to develop games: 2 years from one GC to the other; 3 years from one Wii game to the other. Regarding Wii U, i think that Tropical Freeze was pretty much ready in 2013, so, if the next game releases next year (i think so, btw) it will be close to 4 years.

I don't know how much of that assistance in other projects hurt them, so, it's hard to evaluate that part.

We already saw only 1 game from them this gen and we might just see only one again this coming gen. And if their next project is demanding, you can bet it will happen. Unless they add more staff.

EDIT: Just wanna add that the game also used assests from DKCR and, according to wikipedia, they had help from Monster Games. It also says that SPD Group 3 helped, put doesn't provide a source.
Overall, it could have taken more time if it was Retro alone and if it had been a game built from scratch.
