I personally don't mind revisions every 3-4 years and I will likely be buying a Switch, Scorpio and Neo next year but a big new generation hype train is needed to grow the industry or you will eventually just be left with a limited group of hardcore gamers. |
With a continuous cycle you will have scheduled hype every 3 years. Look at what kind of hype other companies are creating with only one year cycles.
How do you expect the console market to grow if not naturally? People will get a consoles when they need to. It's not like they can grow up without knowing about consoles just because there isn't a big announcement every 6 years. People you get only because of mega hype that seeps into the mainstream will not stay for long and will not grow the industry. Look at the Wii, those people are long gone by now.
I just don't see how people buying overall more consoles will be detrimental to the market. For the market to shrink people would have to actually stop caring about consoles. How is that connected to shorter lifecycles?
