PLaupius and Kyros made some major points I wanted to touch up upon, but I want to add this:

What for me is interesting in the revenue number of developers is their correlation to the concrete salesnumbers of the companies.
Based on revenue and knowing the games sale-price we can determine the amount of sales made and if it comes close to what is stated. This is off course difficult as we have to account for differences in valuta, additional income like interest and dividents but as revenue is almost entirely made up of software sales of devs, it can be fun to compare it next to NPD sales-numbers for instance.

I can imagine that this will happen for Rockstar for instance. With only one major game released this quarter (if I'm not mistaken) and controversial NPD numbers...
