48 – Super Mario Bros 2
When I was a child I saw one of my cousins playing Super Mario Bros 2: It was a level were Mario jumps from whale to whale and can use the whale’s blow to reach higher objects. It might not seem much, but that level blew my mind as no other game had done before. As for the game, it might not be the platforming masterpiece that SMB and SMB3 were; it doesn’t have the same unique flow nor the level design that makes those games so good, but it has its own virtues: four characters with different control responses (hey, Luigi would control like “green Mario” if it weren’t for this game), imaginative enemies (that robot mouse was epic), clever mechanics (the item that opened a door to the reverse world)… and those whales.
