I never wanted down sampled 4k anyway, but I understand not all devs want to invest the time in tweaking graphics. It's a little more effort for Devs but actual 1080p modes should more or less be mandatory. Better AA and more steady performance & If they want they can leave it at that but hopefully they make further adjustments.
