If you do buy them seperatly, then yea, it would be more expensive but back then, I had no choice. If I were to buy a new controller, I would just buy the bundle.

I see. Yes, sony really screwed on the battery life. Doesn't bother me because of the workaround, but people shouldn't have to correct Sony mistakes to enjoy the product.
