What if the console has enough power to output 1080p 60fps, but does not on the screen in order to save battery life? When it is plugged into the dock, it is always charging so it will be able to keep a high battery life while running 1080p. What if its a case of downscaling to the screen, not upscaling from the screen?

Come on bro. You really think Nintendo is going to do this? They're not going to be pushing 1080p. They're not going to be doing downscaling, downsampling or anything like that. You paid for 720p and you're getting 720p. There will be no magic that will make their games higher resolution. Nintendo Power is a oxymoron and we should just come to accept it. Those same rumor people are saying that 540p and upscaling to 720p is a real thing.

If you're going to take the rumour that the screen is 720p, you should take the equally reputable rumour from Laura Dale that the Switch performs better when docked.

The rumoured Switch GPU would render Mario Kart 8 at 1080p with ease whether docked or not.
