It was supposed to be as robust as some of Europe's best. However, it was compromised due to fear of bringing full blown socialism into the country and turn US into a Denmark.
Imagine the horror; everyone's illness would be adressed without crippling debt and the poor insurance companies would have to reduce their margin of profit by a huge chunk.
