There are some interesting differences coming back ton 2D DC after getting the plat on DC VR. (I learned to race on all this city tracks in VR first)

The first thing that stands out is how stretched out the image is on tv. Fish eye lens effect, or zoomed out, which gives you more sense of speed yet also makes it harder to see what's coming up. Perhaps it's simply the result of cramming 70 degree fov on a tv, you normally don't watch at more than 30 degree fov.

When I first started playing DC VR I noticed how everything seemed closer, more compact. After getting used to that it's now the other way around. Perhaps it was also a concession for the low resolution of VR. On the tv you're staring at a tiny section of the screen in the distance. With the decreased resolution of VR it would be very hard to see what's there.

Difference in presentation aside, it's far easier in VR to pick and stick to the best driving line, recover from drifts and judge upcoming corners. DC VR doesn't use the corner flags and doesn't need them. Braking is a lot more natural thanks to 3D and cornering is so much easier with headtracking. Look where you're going works just as in real life.

Going back to 30 fps took some getting used to as well. It looked very choppy at first. However after a few races I guess my brain adjusted and it looked fine again. Still quite jarring to switch between the two.

Back to presentation, the difference is enormous. Watching the city tracks for the first time in full 1080p with all the extra detail was a jaw dropping moment. Add rain and better lighting, I really hope DC VR will still get a pro patch. Anyway the future for racing in VR is huge. Sitting inside the very detailed cars is awesome by itself, yet it enhances the gameplay much more than that. No matter how much better it looks on tv, it's hard to go back.
