Maybe not right now, but It'll be important when it costs $10 to rent a 4k film digitally vs $4 from Redbox. Seriously, even right now, you can BUY a lot of BR movies used for within a dollar of their digital rental price. How in hell is digital a good alternative with their ridiculous asking prices?
