Even Russia does not give that much of a fuck, they are saber rattling because they are angry that they feel the US enabled pro-Europe factions in Ukraine, the US is upset that they invaded Crimea and put sanctions on Russia that really have hurt them. So they are trying to give the US a headache by making it tough on them in Syria. 

Russia can huff and puff a lot but in reality, they are no where near the military power the US is

And compartively are a much poorer country than the US. A World War would bankrupt Russia.

Sounds like a plan.
