I think it's because SFIV was amazing and gave a lot of expectations for SFV to improve, whether if it's small or huge improvements. In splatoon's case fans were simply happy to see Nintendo freshen up and create a new IP that's as memorable as the legends(DK, kirby, etc). Of course as time goes on the sequels will have higher expectations. |
I think you're right about that. Still, it boggles my mind that they had reverse fortunes. Splatoon had some cloud of doubt due to being on Wii U, the state of Nintendo, etc. and ultimately people are requesting amiibos, Callie and Marie concerts and CDs, apparel, and an eventual sequel. While Street Fighter had pretty good fanfare as hype built around its release (though there were some questions about its content due to news about Fight coins, updates, etc.) and eventually falling flat after an ok first week.
Edit: This does beg the question on the status of the Street Fighter franchise for the potential future. Considering that Sony actually took part in financing the game and make it console exclusive that paid little dividends, apparently, where does Capcom go? Will they feel motivated to make another installment?
