Consoles will die eventually, and be reborn as something else in the future. What that will be is up to future software and hardware engineers. 50 years from now, consoles will probably be USB sticks (if usb is still around) that you put in your TV. Physical media will be long gone. Remember when we thought Blockbuster would never die?
Soon, graphics cards will be the size of SD cards. It's just how technology goes.
