Problems:

We don't know battery life. (and from rumors, so far, it will be mediocre and below).

We don't know exact specs (got only rumors).

The concept is perfectly clear. Something that is supposed to do both things. The problem lies in communicating everything that is NOT the concept - and I am thinking that this is a part of a bigger problem in functional (read: target market, specifications, support) communication.

Nintendo fans are perfectly excited about it - don't see why they wouldn't be. But all of this, including the iffy statements from western third parties so far is bad for system hype, word of mouth, etc. Nintendo needs to rectify that.

Sony communicated the PS4 at reveal time perfectly. Hype built up, turned to preorders, and look where it is now. This is less "what we call it" and more "clear message". Look at the bigger picture.

So if the concept is perfectly clear -- that it's a portable console -- why oh why do need to label it "console" or "handheld"?

The answer is: we don't. It's an argument in semantics. That was my point. It has nothing to do with Nintendo PR. It has everything to do with people labeling it a portable because they believe portables are inferior.

I need to because it establishes my argument that Nintendo is not done making dedicated home consoles. This is especially important because it seems nobody believe Nintendo will make another home console and are using this console as a lable for their new home console. A label is more than a label here for me.

Even the host of my show thinks Nintendo is done making home consoles because this console is, in his opinion, Nintendo's way of migrating away from dedicated home consoles. I disagree because I do not see this as a home console in any way, shape, or form. The label is important.

It is in Nintendo's best interest to call this a portable home console because it sounds far more market sexy than, "a hand held that can connect to your television"
