I think Pokemon go effect was much stronger in europe and north america because they are not as culturally aware of pokemon as japan in the first place.
Not that pokemon isnt absolutely huge everywhere, but in europe+north america it's probably been a long time since the average citizen touched a pokemon game. Pokemon Go came in with full force and reminded all of these people of their good times with pokemons prior as well as maybe opening up the franchise to newcomers.
In japan the market is about saturated with pokemon anyways, so GO didn't have much of an effect there.
Anyways sun and moon looks to be doing fantastically. It's a shame that it's legs might be cut short by switch.
