This doesn't confirm anything... It just says that Nintendo thinks people will not see it the same way they see the 3DS.

Nintendo will likely continue their portable line. The DS line sells huge to younger gamers whose parents are looking for something cheap and portable. The mobile market makes this a bit trickier for Nintendo, but there is no way they're just giving up on that part of the market.
