Maybe the 1080p push on a platform that struggles with 1080p? :P

That's grasping at straws. I don't recall 1080p being the focus when X1 launched. During unveiling of PS4 Pro, that console was virtually synonymous 4K. We were lead people to believe everything running was at native 4K. People were also surprised this 4K driven device can't play UHD Bluray discs.

Lastly, X1 does 1080p more than PS4 Pro will likely do 4K.

Edit: One more lastly, we obviously have a higher expectation of 4K on Scropio given their boasting. So MS will catch a ton of shit if they don't deliver.

I'm pretty sure they discussed checkerboard 4k at the first presentation. I guess you can argue it might have been slightly miss-leading at first since most didn't know what it was (so might have assumed it meant native), but Cerny explained the foundation of the method that same day (and has since demonstrated the entire process).

Anyway, i agree with your other point. Based on what we know so far, it seems like a reasonable assumption that the Pro will be hitting a native 4k less often than the X1 did 1080p. It does likewise appear that the average gap between the Pro and native 4k will be smaller than the X1 and 1080p though, so it's not all bad news.
