Dice could have toned down the graphical detail in order to have it running at a higher resolution. They chose not to- obviously frame rate is most important thing to get right.
I remember playing battlefield 3 after bad company 2 and thinking they've hurt the frame rate by expending too much resources into the graphical detail.
