They can't lie or be deceitful about it due to legal reasons, and right now, Sony has to sing profits as much as possible,because they are just starting to get out of a nearly decade long lossing streak. Plus, profits in theselves are not a bad thing. A ccompany should make some money on the products they sell. What does matter is what happens with those profits. If for example you make billions, and completely halt innovation (google, apple), then that is bad. If you take the profits, and bring down the cost of you current product, research and develope an amazing successor, and continue to dabble in new unproven tech, then profits are a really good thing.

There is a difference between making profit per hardware and making profit like Apple per hardware. For a machine that needs software, if the company who made the  machine doesn't make money they would cut support.
