Thanks for all the info thus far. Yes, this laptop originally belonged to my mom-in-law, and she never really needed anything too powerful to begin with. My intent was to install the newest version of Windows and an anti-virus software, and then I was going to run Steam on it for lesser demanding spec games. Maybe it's not worth the resources and time to do so.
