More reason to wait till revision 2 for me.

I'm not sure how this would be overcome in a revision 2. The screen needs to be OLED to offer "low persistance", the lenses have to be in place for the VR-field of view and any kind of sunlight blocker within the lenses would darken the image a lot (which already is a difficulty as low persistance means the screen only flashes the image for a fraction of a second which lowers the brightness).

An automatical method might be by including a sensor that detects whether or not the HMD is worn and drops some kind of protective layer in front of the screen if it doesn't (might be costly/failure prone) and a manual method to just have some kind of shutters or sth in front of the lenses you close once you take off the HMD.

Well, these measures might be an exaggeration though, as imo it's not hard at all to prevent sun-damage once you know it can be an issue.

Well, can't they just have a physical thing in front of the lens that blocks the sunlight when its not in use? And then move it away from the lens (whether be manually or automatically) when its not in use? Like a cover or something.

While it is true that its not that hard to keep it away from the sun, it just adds to the reasons why waiting for another revision just might be better unless people are blown away by the current experience so much that it is a must have for them. Generally I found that waiting for generation 2 usually leads to quite a bit of improvements over generation 1 since companies already have a base to work it and they want to fix the issues. Not saying that people shouldn't get PSVR or VR in general or anything (I got the Gear VR) but just saying it might be better to wait for those who can.
