I'm not sure how this would be overcome in a revision 2. The screen needs to be OLED to offer "low persistance", the lenses have to be in place for the VR-field of view and any kind of sunlight blocker within the lenses would darken the image a lot (which already is a difficulty as low persistance means the screen only flashes the image for a fraction of a second which lowers the brightness).

An automatical method might be by including a sensor that detects whether or not the HMD is worn and drops some kind of protective layer in front of the screen if it doesn't (might be costly/failure prone) and a manual method to just have some kind of shutters or sth in front of the lenses you close once you take off the HMD.

Well, these measures might be an exaggeration though, as imo it's not hard at all to prevent sun-damage once you know it can be an issue.
