Ugh. So true.
It's not like it's a mystery on how to make a good movie.
Step 1 : Get a good budget put aside.
Step 2 : Get a good script from a proven writer together.
Step 3 : Get a great director lined up.
Step 4 : Get a good cast together, with the leads filled by appropriate talent.
Boom, great movie highly probable with this combo.
But instead, they know that the IP will have a built-in basic fanbase, and then for international market they know they can guarantee X amount in box office receipts with the right combo of explosions and marketing. So they sign a cheap director, rush a script through a group of McScript-athon writers, attach some B-list talent to fill the roles, give it a cheesy pop soundtrack, and poof : another mediocre-to-awful film is shat out upon us.
