I don't buy it. I don't believe that Nintendo was ever planning to compete with Sony and MS on power. I doubt that the new consoles from Sony and MS is having any impact on Nintendo's plans with the NX.
Nintendo is intentionally staying very tight-lipped on the NX because it probably involves an innovative concept that can be easily copied. They want to be the first to market with their idea and they are willing to leave shareholders in the dark and take a stock hit to do it. They have basically said as much and I am fine with that explanation. I just hope that their confidence in the NX is justified and that they can catch lightning again and create a success.
