more like Nintendo has literally no strong advantage of announcing it 6 months in advance rather than like 4. They're not going to magically stop people from buying other stuff over the holidays for Christmas

people will either be excited or they won't. They honestly could annoice the system only a few months early and it would likely make zero difference. In the end what matters is if the system is a hit in terms of innovation and design. Its sort of like a good food, the marketing does the work by itself if consumers like the product enough

Third party developers have been far more positive sounding than they were about the Wii U, especially Ubisoft. 

I think you're mistaking playing it safe with being scared. Nintendo has been saying for months and months that they are concerned if they announce it too early the competition may attempt to copy them
