Yea but isn't DayDream just basically an app that you can install from the PlayStore? Even if Samsung doesn't want it, I don't get why it can't support it.

"Support" is a very difficult matter for companies because there is a lot of money behind it. So if a company says their product "supports" something it means that it has been thoroughly tested and they can vouch for functionality. It does not mean that it doesn't work on anything else. But if google would come out and say "runs on every android device" they would be liable. They also cannot test every single device so they limit it. The list will grow over time and will also work on Samsung smartphones unless Samsung actively prevents it.

However for now I don't see a reason to support it on smartphones that also work with Gear VR. That platform is a lot more mature than Daydream and has a lot more content.

Mhmm you do make a really good point there. Its just odd to me that Samsung hasn't said anything about it since they generally have the lion's share of Android phone sales and one would think that Google would get them on board asap. Galaxy S devices supporting Day Dream would allow plenty of people to buy a Day Dream headsets but I suppose that is a reason why we may have not heard of anything. Hopefully things will be more clear tomorrow and its not some sort of a nonsense reason.

And it is true about the Gear VR and its maturity but I feel like in the long run, Day Dream will get more support.
