Yea but isn't DayDream just basically an app that you can install from the PlayStore? Even if Samsung doesn't want it, I don't get why it can't support it.

the rumors say there is a headset component which comes in at ~$30 and the app will partly have free stuff and partly be a store

there is the problem, Samsung want to sell their own headset at ~$99 and want people to use their own Gear VR store with it
