First time posting a new thread. Scary.
I don't really know if any of you cares, but I thought it might be of interest to some. Therefore I'm going to post the scores of all games reviewed in this months edition of the Swedish gaming magazine LEVEL.
Just a short introduction to LEVEL (You might want to skip this):
Sweden is a market where gaming magazines are pretty scarce. Not threatened by extinction, but darn close. When I was little I read 'Nintendo magasinet', that lived in the late 80's early 90's. When that got closed down, a new magazine showed up: Nintendo POWER. Nintendo power was better in every way, better writing, better covarage and much less biasad toward Nintendo. When the PlayStation started to compete with nintendo, Nintendo Power took the decision to cover all gaming platforms, and changed it's name to Super PLAY.
After over a hundred issues and more than a couple of renovations, Super PLAY took a drastic turn and changed its editor and all of it's writers but one. The ones who left started a new magazine, RESET (again with the capitals) that only lived for a bit more than a dozen issues before teaming up with another magazine, player1, to form LEVEL (... capitals again). So even though the magazine is only on it's third year, it has a lot of history. Super PLAY still exists, and I usually buy both magazines. LEVEL is my favorite, it feels more passionate and serious.
Both Super PLAY and LEVEL have a 10 grade scoring system.
Anyway, I got my copy of LEVEL in the mail yesterday, so here are the review scores and motivations:
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
Score: 10
Metal Gear Solid 4 is Hideo Kojimas best and most gripping game ever.
Haze
Score: 4
Free radical is no longer a name that stands for quality.
Pro - Ambitious multiplayer.
Con - Ugly graphics, bad AI
Boom Blox
Score: 9
A game that noone should with sublime control and fantastic multiplayer.
Pro - Toy of the year?
Con - Sticking on some kind of story just feels unneccesary
Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core
Score: 8
Magical but tragical
Iron Man
Score: 2
Iron Junk
Race Driver: Grid
Score: 7
Unforgiving and frustrating, yet surprisingly fun.
Pros - Graphics, physics, control
Con - A bit too ambivalent to reach the top
Pool Party
Score: 5
Functionional digital pool(?), with all that that entails.
Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures
Score: 7
George Lucas + Lego + Video game = Fun!
Pro - Just the right mix of Lego and Indy-feeling
Echochrome
Score: 7
Pros - Superb design and music
Con - Level editor could have been more educational (SWE: pedagogisk)
Not the best in it's genre, but a very entertaining puzzle-game.
There, that's it for this month. Hope I'm not breaking any rules by posting this, and that at least someone feels it's worth their time to read.
