Important to remember that when you remove the detachable controllers you're left with a tablet which plays Nintendo games.

Of course if Nintendo done this they would figure out a more ergonomic control placement then any of the tablet attachments  we've seen.

Yes, but that would require it to be a good Tablet, not just a good gaming device. Anything not running android/ios/Windows 10 has no hope in the Tablet Market, and Nintendo are hardly well known for the quality hardware people in the tablet crowd are after.

I mean the NX is rumoured to be 720p for one... on a tablet released after 2012 that's a no go, then you have the battery life, camera... I don't see the NX winning over the Tablet crowd, and I don't see a tablet sized device winning over the 3ds crowd. It would be a fairly niche device.

I think Kids would be perfectly happy with a 720p tablet, just because other manufacturers are having a pissing contest for how many pixels they can fit into a 8" screen, I don't think that means consumers are unwilling to accept less, especially those not going for a premium device. The battery life rumours from Emily was obviously in response to playing games, I doubt any tablet would last too long playing full blown games like Zelda BOTW. With the camera she specified that it won't be built in & that she didn't mean there won't be one. The great thing about the Tablet crowd is that its huge, in 1 year more tablets will be sold than PS4/X1/Wii U lifetime sales combined. There are different demographics and room to diversify, Nintendo wouldn't have to compete with the $800 iPad and $600 Samsung Galaxy.

Obviously the potential to turn it into a 4-8player Mario Kart box on the fly & play next full fledged Pokemon help distinguish it. Its not the expectation that someone uninterested in gaming will pick up an NX, but that a casual gamer on the fringes will be more interested in Nintendo's device by the fact it also doubles as a tablet. Theres definitely obstacles to face but we know that a dedicated handheld system will continue to decline without a successful gimmick openning Nintendo up to new audiences. we saw from the GBA 80m (4years), 3DS 60m (6years in Jap, 5 years WW), Dedicaed NX Handheld 30m-50m? (5 years)
