I think it's more the power of the name.  "Pro" is a very positive term in terms of connotation.  I mean, if you are looking at getting a PS4, do you get the normal one, the slim, or the Pro?  The very term Pro makes it more appealing.

Now Christmas, we might see a shift as your grandmas and soccer moms who aren't at all informed just look for the deals rather than the superior product come out to shop.

It's apt you should say that. I've been giving that a lot of thought sinse the name was announced and I do think it has something to do with it.

Also the launch and innitial "no phil spencer" start didn't help, I know I didn't'buy a Xbox One originally because it was not released on launch in my country because they felt The Netherlands wasn't important enough and all you could buy was a german or UK Import console, PS4 was a very easy pick back then, right now I would still prefer it because of Persona 5 but its much closer.

Sometimes the company is responsable for how people feel towards their product, I would say the name and first year from announcement to store deffenitely still hurts how everyone feels about the product today, even tough they did do a good job on turning the ship.
