I believe the only way to use the word generations about consoles, is grouping them as a unit.
That means, gens only make sense when you look at the competition as well.
If NX spends most of its life cycle competeing against Xbox One & Playstation 4, that means its NOT a 9th gen system.
So the answear is "no time" , because its a late 8th gen system by nintendo.
Its competeing against PS4 + XB1, and its just very late to the party.
