It will be Nintendo's 7th gen console. PS5 will be Sony's 5th gen console.
We are currently in the collective 8th generation. But just because you release a console doesn't neccesarily mean that a new collective console generation starts. I think a new generation starts when a good number of developers start producing games specifically for a new generation of consoles. Porting current gen games over to it doesn't count.
Depending on what NX is and what games it gets, I'm more prone to seeing it as Nintendo's second attempt at the collective generation 8.
If 99% of a consoles games are Generation B games, then it's a generation B console to me. Similar to how New 3DS has 99% of the same games as the 3DS.
