I honestly dont consider it a 9th gen in practis. Its a 9th gen in name only, without what normally comes with gens (hardware advantage over older gen hardware). It wont have multiplats the other 2 wont have, and worse because its less powerfull than 8th gen competition, it will run things worse. |
Generations aren't defined as anything other than a being an entirely new console. PS4 Pro is, per Sony's own words, just a PS4 with a little extra juice. They've said many times that it's not a next generation machine and that PS5 is coming. Scorpio, we don't know anything about yet. Microsoft could easily change gears (they've done so many times over the last few years) and call it a brand new console, ditching the entire Xbox One concept. All they've said is it'll be able to play Xbox One games... which is really just, backwards compatibility.
But, getting back to my point, a "gen" is defined by an entirely new machine... not an upgraded old one. The NX is a 9th generation console because of that. Power does not define a generation. The Wii was a 7th generation console even though it was no more powerful than a Gamecube.
